Our Good Day
This story shows that the book takes place in the past, because it is possible to buy a nice bike for the low cost of fifteen dollars. It also shows this because Esperanza was saving money and it was only three dollars , which had to be a lot for her. Esperanza was also desperate for friends and so she even spent her sister's money without asking so she could have friends. I feel kind of bad for her though because she is that desperate for friends. I don't think i would pay people in order to become their friend though. Friends i have met , have always liked me for me and not the fact that I paid them off.
The House on Mango Street
This vignette is the 1st one in the book and describes the housing situations that the main character has had to live in. This story shows that poverty is a major problem in the United States and how hard money is to come by in a poor neighborhood. I can relate to Esperanza living in a small house, because when i was young i lived in a two room apartment with my parents. Fortunately I only had to share the bedroom with my parents and not any siblings. The house also was not falling apart and there was enough room for my family. I also only lived in one house before living in my current house and did not change towns. I really sympathize with Esperanza though, because her family is big and they barely have enough money to support the children with food and clothing.
