"Bums in the Attic"

This vignette describes Esperanza's dream house and how she will let bums live in her attic because she knows how hard it is to be without a home. If I had enuf money to buy my dream house i wouldnt let bums live in my attic but i would for sure donate a decent amount to charity in order to aid the homeless who recieved my money.

"Rafaela Who Drinks... on Tuesdays"

This vignette shows how women are treated at the time during the book was written, and how they were almost like pets or objects to the men who marry them. This story applies to most of the women Esperanza describes like Sally who is forced to stay inside. The only man in the story who does not do this is Esperanza's father, which is why Esperanza is so sad for these people because she knows what a real man should act like because of the way her father treats her mother so well.

Elenita, Cards, Palm, Water

In this vignette Elenita is described as a "witch woman", but in today's society she would be described as a fortune teller like the ones you see in Vegas who put on a big show in order to scam you out of your hard earned money. Elenita is no different in trying to take money from little kids who save their allowances. I have never been to a fortune teller in order to "see my future", because I believe it is all a sham when they speak in metaphors. An example of this is when she tells Esperanza that she will have a "home in her heart", and does not explain what that means. This does however dissapoint Esperanza because it is not what she wants in her life.

Geraldo No Last Name

This is a very depresing vignette, which clearly depicts the way that the majority of whites in the town see these poor Mexican families along with all other people who live in poverty. I do not live in poverty and i occasionaly help the poor by volunteering, this gives me a whole new perspective on how the population of poors and Mexicans in this town in the story are viewed. I can see why people treat Mexicans this way because of all of the stereotypes and demeanors that are in todays society. I believe that it would be horrible for the police to not care about someone who was killed in an accident and instead blame the person who died for it.
